In response to Bob West's question. Mike was killed in a car accident in 1975~ He and my sister, Chris dated throughout high school. Our family loved him very much.
Mike was always a great classmate. Vietnam was something that a lot of us thought we were winning, but later found it was not. When we came back, we were spit on; things thrown at us. The thing that sticks out in my mind, is the death and carnage of our military folks, as well as the Vietnamese. I know of many people who commited suicide and could not get over the villages and killings in the jungles, not to mention those of us who reviewed the awful napalm drops and how destructive everything. I flew into Da Nang and our aircraft was shot at...with holes in the tail and back end of the aircraft.
We see a lot of guys and gals coming back from the "sandbox" in the Middle East, with PTSD. They are human as well and just like Vietnam, they see a lot of terrible things.
Mike: God Bless you and your family along with your friends. You served honorably and things beyond our control, made the war thankless, and a reminder that we probably should not have been there. You are missed buddy and are loved.
