Dan Hester recalls that it was a few years after we graduated that Rick was working in the woods for the forest service. and the barracks where he was sleeping caught on fire and he was killed.
Rick was a sweet friend that I had great affection for.......he passed away from this accident when he was only 25 years old. Rick was born on Nov 4, 1946 and passed March 1972.
Rick and I were like brothers all thru high school. He loved the outdoors and we spent a lot of time together hunting and fishing. He showed me a place in the Cascades behind Mt Si called Bear Basin. It was about a 12 mile hike up through Warehouser timber land. At the top are two pristine lakes full of trout and an old CCC camp log cabin. In the cabin, if it is still there, are Rick & my signatures in an old cedar log book. When I think of Rick I think of this spot. I went off and joined the Navy and lost touch with Rick. My Mom and Dad sent me an article from the Seattle Times about Ricks accident in Alaska it was very sad. He was a good guy and a good friend I still think about him today and will always miss him.
