Cedarbrook looks like the kind of grand Northwest lodge you would see in the San Juan Islands or Olympic Penninsula but it is only five minutes from Sea-Tac Airport ticked in a SeaTac residential neighborhood. Has a great restaurant. More info at www.cedarbrooklodge.com.

Julie Bryant and I toured the property last Friday and met with the catering manager.  We are waiting for a proposal to see if Cedarbrook is feasible for the reunion.  It would be great if a couple of people stepped up to the plate and underwrote the event to help defray the costs.  I for one would be willing to do so.  Cedarbrook is a beautiful facility and would be convenient for anyone coming into town.

Highline High School facade is iconic for the area.  It must be saved.

While we're renovating, I welcome you to follow my blog at jeannejudd.com.  My condo at SW 178th +2nd SW is developing as the King County GreenTools demonstration project for sustainable pracitices and energy efficiency.  Are you renovating? I have resources.

The Cedarbook is a complete pleasure. My late husband Oliver and I celebrated our 15th anniversary there with the imaginative Northwest fresh menu and memories to keep.

I was just looking at this year's calendar:

Senior Citizens Day in United States

National Senior Citizens Day recognizes contributions senior citizens make in communities across the United States. It is annually observed on August 21.

Boy-oh-boy!   50 years from high school graduation and they have to mark it as a Senior Citizen day.     Oh well we were Seniors in 1965 and now an annual event.    Looking forward to seeing you all.

A 1964 Highline High School friend died this evening...Connie Purdy.   Many new her as an outgoing girl and participated with many of the sock hops; and a regular team member of the Sea Scout vessel, the SES Hi-Liner.   She lived in Tennessee and is survived by her husband Deryl and a son and daughter.

How was the reunion? Hated to end up missing it. Have enjoyed being able to e mail or text and hear what is going on. I wonder if this will stay up.

I hope everyone attending had fun. Missed seeing you.

To my many many friends - What a wonderful reunion it was.   The entire function was so well organized and everything came together fantastically.   The band and singer (Cathy) was another of the many highlights of the evening.   The food and drinks were superb!   Unlike going to the old LOU's Driv-Inn on 152md, where you could meet your friends; have a small fight; change engines, this was a very classy event.   Julie and the many people who planned and organized everything - a BIG THANK YOU!    I enjoyed seeing everyone.   Thanks everyone.

I hope everyone at the 50th reunion had a great time. I am so sorry I had to miss it but it was because of family health problems. Hope to be at the next one and missed everyone. Linda Jacobson Gasque

Seeing old friends after fifty years was great fun. It brought back a lot of memories. I stayed overnight at the Cedarbrook Lodge and the accommodations were great. Lunch in the Copperleaf restaurant was excellent. Great facilities. Down side was the cheap catering at the reunion. The food was mostly low quality. And seventy-five dollars a head was ridiculous for a low rent duet for the music. That was a lot of money for a meeting room and little more. Oh by the way, the complimentary breakfast the next morning in the same Tamerack Room beat out the marginal food at the reunion, by far!! Overall, great seeing everyone making for a unique experience. But.....think I will pass on any future events.

Wow, a couple of unnecessary slams here.  Tom, you must not have any recent event-planning experience. Many of us loved the venue, its Northwest warmth and perfect location.  I was fine with the food, better even than expected, considering what the competition offers these days.

My thanks to all who worked on the reunion.  And it was wonderful to see so many of you there, including even Hazel Valley Elem classmates!  As many of us marveled, how did 50 years pass so fast?!

Sounds like you all had a great time.   I was unable to attend for personal reasons....I have 2 years left to serve and the warden wouldn't let me out for the night...And as for Tom Carey's response, What a Pompous Ass!

I thought the venue was great!  I thoroughly enjoyed the evening seeing so many of my old classmates as far back as elementary school.  The food was good.  The only thing I would say is that the music was a little too loud and made it difficult to visit.

So glad so many people had a great evening!  I know I did - so much fun seeing all our classmates, and as Leslie said, there was a warmth of friendship in the room, and I felt there was a lot of energy as well.  When I looked around the room that night I saw smiles and hugs and heard animated voices and laughter.  What could be better than that?  Happy 50th!

I am sooooooo thankful to all the people who put the event together.  The facility was wonderful.  The price reasonable.  The only regrets I have are that even though I was there the entire time of the event, I did not get to talk with everyone I wanted to talk with, and that there were many folks who were not there.  Mike Gordon is someone I wanted to see in particular.  He was amazing in debate.  I always envied his intellect.

Reunions are interesting feedback on one's own maturing in life and perhaps the maturing of others.  I was at the 20th reunion and it seemed (perhaps I was projecting) that people were much less sure of themselves and insecure, some trying to impress others.  (I know I was.  I don't think it worked.)  I saw none of that at the 50th.  People I saw were kind, happy to see you, and much more interesting than 30 years ago.  It was fun just to sit down toward the end (when my knees were tired of standing) and watch it happen.  I especially enjoyed watching Linda (Stick) Reese enjoy herself talking with one group of old friends and then another.  What joy!

Lou Tice used to talk about Erick Erickson and the ages of man.  If I remember what I learned 50 years ago correctly, I think we are in the "generativity" stage which is a good thing.  Maybe grandchildren do that to us.  Old friends certainly did Friday evening.

Cheers

Don Austin

I completely agree with Don and all the others that had a WONDERFUL time. I certainly did. I'm so glad I went. I so enjoyed seeing every one as "Grown-Ups".....I thought the venue was great...(didn't ever get to the food....too busy trying to talk to everyone!) Kudos and Bravos to those performed what must have been the somewhat daunting task of putting it all together.......Well Done!

Hah! I love Gordon's response. My only complaint on the food and music, and overall cost was mentioned by many others throughout the evening. For horduerves, I just don't find Jimmy Dean mini chicken sandwiches on a dried out bun exciting. As I mentioned, I loved the Cedarbrook Lodge and my stay there. By comparison for Joanne, we had a retired pilot's reunion last December at the Crown Plaza in Atlanta, with a sit-down dinner and music, for forty dollars a head. And about the same number of people. So, don't shoot the messenger for bravely speaking up.

I agree with you Chris! What a fabulous evening – it was wonderful getting to reconnect with so many people, some of who I’ve known for 62 years!   What a treat, you can’t pay for something that fantastic!

I feel blessed that this selfless reunion committee worked their tails off (including locating a lovely venue) so we could just show up and enjoy ourselves, as I did!

Speaking for the committee this was a labor of love for us to put the reunion together for the milestone of 50 years.  We wanted to make it as nice as possible for everyone to enjoy the evening.  You can't put a price on the commraderie that took place Saturday night!  We are very pleased to hear how so many had a wonderful evening.  Many thanks to all of you that came.

A special thanks to the reunion team.  What a great job and I know the amount of work and time involved.  The venue was the best we could ask for and no less than five star.  I have personally had several business functions here.  Kudos!  I loved seeing everyone and thought everyone looked really good after 50 years.  Many blessing to each of you.

I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and compliments to the Reunion Committee for presenting such an incredible night. Loved re-meeting and talking to my new/old friends. I had lots of laughs and some spirit-filled moments, which shall last me the rest of my natural life. Regarding the appetizers, which I thought were well done for a catered event, my best friend/brother Larry Guilliatt put it this way, "I didn't go there for the food, I went for the company." Amen, Brother!

To my friend, Tom Carey: I love you, Man, but there is an old life axiom that I thought even sharp retired pilots knew and should follow (can be applied to nose-dives): When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. I hope you will reconsider your closing of the door on people who meant a lot to you at one time. I am certain they will forgive your mental lapse; after all, we too have had a few senior moments.

wink Bob
